In Loving Memory
Robert James McConnell
March 29, 1950 — April 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert James McConnell, who departed this world peacefully at home on April 10, 2026. Born on March 29, 1950, in the warm embrace of Arkansas, Robert lived a life filled with love, dedication, and quiet strength.
Robert was the beloved husband of Linda McConnell, with whom he shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. Their journey began on September 14, 1977, in Fairfield, Connecticut, where they built a life grounded in love and faith. Together, they raised two devoted children, Travis McConnell, who shares his life with Ashley, and Diane McConnell-Harris, married to Kevin. Robert's legacy also lives on in his four cherished grandchildren: Caden, Brooke, Luke, and Savannah, who were the light of his life.
Robert was the treasured son of the late Ben and Susan McConnell. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward McConnell and Dorothy Mae McConnell, as well as his brother, Gary Lee McConnell, Robert is survived by his loving sister, Carol McConnell-Webb. His family was his anchor, and he was theirs.
A proud graduate of Fairfield High School in 1977, Robert pursued his passion for engineering at the University of Connecticut, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in 1981. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education with a master's degree in Construction Management from Southern Connecticut State University.
For over three decades, Robert dedicated his career to Northeastern Construction Group, where he was a respected civil engineer. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and steadfast leadership, Robert managed large-scale infrastructure projects across Connecticut. He was a mentor to many, remembered as a builder of not just structures, but of people and legacy. Colleagues fondly recall his pride in creating things that would stand the test of time.
Robert was a man of few words, yet every word carried weight. His dry sense of humor, steady calm, and gentle presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He led by example, instilling values of patience and integrity in those fortunate enough to know him.
Beyond his professional life, Robert found joy in the simple pleasures. A lifelong passion for fishing brought him peace, whether on solitary mornings or teaching his grandchildren to cast a line. He enjoyed the art of woodworking, the thrill of college football, and weekends surrounded by family.
A private ceremony will be held on April 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church, located at 2409 W New Hope Rd, Rogers, AR 72758. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Trout Unlimited, honoring Robert's love for the water and nature.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bridgeport Hospital for their compassionate care during this difficult time. As they remember Robert, they hold dear the words, "He lived simply, loved deeply, and left the water a little better than he found it."
Robert James McConnell's life was a testament to love, dedication, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
