Robert J. Leonard
February 2, 1950 — August 29, 2026
Robert J. Leonard, a cherished brother, uncle, friend, and champion for the voiceless, passed away peacefully in Florida on September 7th, 2026, after suffering a stroke. His loving sister, Maureen and devoted niece, Margaret were by his side. Born on February 2, 1950, in Somerville, Massachusetts, Robert was the beloved son of Joseph and Liberta Leonard.
Robert’s early years were spent in Somerville, where he was instilled with values of empathy and determination by his loving parents. He pursued higher education at the University of Delaware, where he graduated with a degree that paved the way for a successful business career. However, Robert’s heart was truly devoted to his passion for animal rights—a cause to which he dedicated more than two decades of his life. His grassroots activism played a pivotal role in saving thousands of animals, reflecting his deep commitment to creating a kinder world.
Robert’s life was enriched by his love of writing. His first book, In the Blink of a Cow's Eye was recently published. Robert loved golf and vegan cuisine. He created delicious vegan dishes, that he shared with family and friends.
Robert touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a loving family, including his sister, Maureen, his brother, William, sister-in-law Marylou Leonard, cherished nieces, Margaret Messier and Katelynn Leonard Wallace and ex-wife Mary McGee Leonard
