Robert Gray

February 6, 1945 — October 10, 2026

Robert Gray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully departed this life on October 10, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on February 26, 1945, in Cedar Springs Abbeville, South Carolina, Robert was the cherished son of Benny F. Gray and Belle Conner. He was predeceased by his devoted parents and his three admired sisters, Florence Gray, Willie Mae Lewis, and Eunice Gray. Robert shared a beautiful and enduring marriage with his loving wife, Elaine Gray, for 49 remarkable years. Together, they created a family filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful daughters, Tonida Cleveland and Telethia Wilder Hylton (Craig) enriched Robert’s life with joy and fulfillment. His legacy continues through his granddaughter, LeToia Cleveland (PopPop's baby); his grandson, Eidryce Wilder-Marks, and his great-grandson, Ivan King Wilder-Marks. Robert’s early education began in Abbeville, SC, and he proudly completed his schooling while serving in the U.S. Army, where he earned several medals of distinction, including the Vietnam Service Medal. After his honorable service, Robert transitioned into civilian life with a move to Philadelphia, where he pursued his passion for the culinary arts through various jobs. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Gray's Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning business, which he successfully operated for 21 years. A skilled handyman known for his ability to repair anything, Robert was always ready to lend a hand, especially to his daughters. Remarkably, he never traveled without his trusty tools, packed even before his suitcase. In later years, Robert obtained his CDL license, driving for the Philadelphia School System and Hertz Rent-A-Car before settling in Charlotte, NC, after forty years in Philly. He enjoyed simple pleasures, such as reading the newspaper, surfing the internet, and grilling—particularly his famous chicken and ribs. Throughout his life, Robert was a man of integrity, resilience, and kindness, deeply committed to his family. He played an integral part during LeToia's formative years. Which helped to shape her into the brilliant and tenacious woman she is today. His presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Levine & Dickson Hospice House for their compassionate care during Robert's final days. Robert Gray's legacy is one of love, dedication, and the profound impact he had on every life he touched. His memory will forever be cherished.
