Robert G. Lavern III

January 9, 1967 — June 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert G. Lavern III, a cherished father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Bob, as he was affectionately known, left this world on June 21, 2026, at the age of 59, surrounded by the comfort of his home in his beloved recliner. Born on January 9, 1967, in International Falls, MN, Bob was the beloved son of Robert Lavern II and Elise Lavern. Growing up in the charming community of International Falls, Bob developed a deep affection for the outdoors, a passion he carried with him throughout his life. After graduating from Falls High School in the Class of 1985, Bob dedicated many years to public service, working tirelessly for the Department of Transportation of Minnesota. His commitment to ensuring the safety of his community during early mornings and late nights on snow patrol stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication and work ethic. Bob's life was blessed with love and family. He was first united in marriage to Bonnie Lavern, and together they welcomed two wonderful sons into the world. Although Bonnie left this world too soon, her memory remained a guiding light in Bob's life. Years later, Bob found love once again with Diane Lavern, and they shared precious years together until Diane's passing due to complications of lung cancer. Bob was predeceased by his cherished wives, Bonnie and Diane, and his beloved son, Cory Lavern. Despite these profound losses, Bob's life was filled with joy and love, particularly through his surviving family. His son, Mitchell Lavern, and daughter-in-law, Berri, brought immense pride and happiness to his days. Bob's heart swelled with love for his cherished grandsons, Berkley and Louie Lavern, whom he adored watching as they played hockey, football, and baseball. He was a constant presence at their games, cheering them on with unwavering support and pride. Bob’s generous spirit extended beyond his immediate family. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Linda (Bruce) Walker, Don (Diane) Kockelman, and Jim (Bev) Kockelman, and a treasured uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. His special friend, Dennis Kalar, was a steadfast companion through life's many adventures. An avid outdoorsman, Bob found solace in the quiet moments spent hunting and fishing. He was also a devoted sports enthusiast, rarely missing a hockey or football game. But above all, Bob's greatest joy came from being present in the lives of his grandsons, sharing in their victories and offering comfort in their defeats. Known for his boundless compassion and generosity, Bob had the biggest heart of anyone who knew him. He was always the first to lend a hand, offering help, care, and unwavering support to his family and friends. As a friend and coworker, he was admired for his integrity, kindness, and the genuine warmth he brought to every interaction. In accordance with Bob's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Bob's memory to IFalls Rec Hockey, an organization close to his heart. Bob will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with those he loved and lost, resting peacefully in eternal serenity.
