Robert Franklin Ingram

February 23, 1936 — March 19, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Franklin Ingram, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Robert departed from this world on March 19, 2020, at the age of 84, after a valiant battle with a series of strokes and metastatic melanoma cancer. Born on February 23, 1936, in Brundidge, Alabama, Robert was the cherished son of Travis Ingram and Mary Frances Olds Ingram. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents and his brother, Douglas Travis Ingram of Enterprise, Alabama. Robert's life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit that touched everyone who had the privilege to know him. Robert's journey was defined by a deep commitment to his family and community. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Shirley Blackwood, in Columbus, Georgia. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Connie Lynn Ingram, into the world in 1964, and shortly thereafter, the family planted roots on a picturesque farm in Smith Station. A man of many talents and an unwavering work ethic, Robert owned and operated a Foreign Car Repair Shop in Phenix City until his well-earned retirement. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his passion for sharing his knowledge and skills with others. As the first grandchild in a large family, Robert was adored by his extended family, who reveled in teaching him outdoor skills. He, in turn, passed these treasured lessons to his younger cousins, ensuring that his family's legacy would endure. Robert's dedication to service extended beyond his professional life. A proud member of the National Guard, he served his country with honor in various locations, embodying the values of duty and sacrifice. His time in the Guard was a source of immense pride and fulfillment. Education was a cornerstone of Robert's life. He graduated from Pike County High School in Brundidge, Alabama, in 1955, where he was an active member of the school band. His love for music and learning was a constant source of joy and inspiration throughout his life. Retirement did not slow Robert and Shirley down; rather, it provided them the opportunity to embrace new adventures. They spent their golden years farming, sharing the beauty of Shirley's pottery, and indulging in the simple pleasure of fishing together. Their farm was a haven of love, laughter, and cherished memories, a testament to their shared dreams and unwavering devotion. Robert's legacy is carried forward by his beloved wife, Shirley Blackwood Ingram, his devoted daughter, Connie Lynn Ingram of Phenix City, Alabama, and his dear sister, Joyce Ingram Rice of Sky Valley, Georgia. His memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew and loved him. As we bid farewell to Robert Franklin Ingram, we celebrate a life marked by kindness, resilience, and an enduring love for family and community. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love he so generously gave.
