June 4, 1949 — October 21, 2026

Robert Ellis Stockwell, affectionately known as Rob, passed away on October 21, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of family and the love of those who cherished him. Born on June 4, 1949, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Rob was the beloved son of John and Mary McKee Stockwell, of Greenwell Springs LA, who preceded him in death, along with his younger brother Larry “Duffy” Stockwell. He is survived by sister, Joellen Meeks and husband Bill; and brother, John Barney Stockwell. Rob's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and dedication. He shared 55 years of marriage with his dear wife, Yvette Fossier Stockwell. Together, they made their home in seven states before settling in Louisville, Kentucky, where they filled their lives with love and laughter. Their journey together was blessed with three wonderful children: Jay Edward Stockwell, married to Audrey; Todd Clayton Stockwell, Best friend to Teresa; and Kathleen Stockwell Burnett, married to Michael. Rob's legacy of love and wisdom continues to shine brightly in his six grandchildren: Cooper, Gracyn, Dylan, Georgia, Harper, and Bailey. An alumnus of Central High School and Louisiana State University, Rob pursued a career in chemical engineering. His career led his family to Beulah, North Dakota, where he played a pivotal role in designing the first coal gasification plant in the United States. Rob flourished at United Catalysts, Inc./Sud-Chemie, Inc where he dedicated two decades before retiring in 2005. Even in retirement, Rob's passion for his work led him to consult for Casale, Inc. in Lugano, Switzerland. However, his true joy was found in becoming a devoted "Pops" to his cherished grandchildren. Rob was an active and beloved member of the Christ Church United Methodist Church community. His involvement in the Friendship Class Sunday School and the CCUM Methodist Men’s group brought him great joy and fulfillment. A lifelong LSU Tiger fan, Rob's enthusiasm for sports was contagious. From selling drinks at the stadium as a young boy to sharing stories filled with impressive sports statistics, his passion for the Tigers was undeniable. His love for LSU was as vibrant as the colors he proudly wore — purple and gold. Known for his kindness, logical mind, and storytelling prowess, Rob had a remarkable ability to connect with others. His anecdotes about LSU and his grandchildren were legendary, and his memory for sports stats and players was extraordinary. As a friend, he was steadfast and loyal, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. A service to honor Rob's life will be held on November 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Christ Church United Methodist Church, located at 4614 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40207. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Christ Church United Methodist Youth Choir, in remembrance of Rob's generous spirit and love for his church community. The Stockwell family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Norton Brownsboro ICU staff for their compassionate and respectful care of Rob during his final days.
