July 7, 1957 — May 1, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert Earl Howard Sr., who departed this world on May 1, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Robert was born on July 7, 1957, in the close-knit community of Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late Robert Earl Howard and Brownie Mae Tyler. He was a beacon of laughter, love, and resilience to all who knew him. Robert's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and the power of a good sense of humor. He attended Bainbridge High School but chose to leave in the 10th grade to start working, a decision that marked the beginning of a long and dedicated career with the City of Bainbridge, where he served for over 25 years. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and friends. He shared over two decades of life and love with his cherished partner, Leatha Johnson. Together, they created a beautiful and enduring partnership, one filled with joy, laughter, and mutual support. Robert was the proud father of six children: Robert Earl Howard Jr., Eric Howard, Natasha Cox, Jamie Howard, Shamika Howard, and Tadarious Howard. His legacy also extends to his eight adored grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and countless friends who became family over the years. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brother Allen Howard, and his sister Laura Tyler. Their memories lived on in his heart, and their love continued to inspire him throughout his life. An avid outdoorsman, Robert found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He relished fishing and hunting, and he cherished time spent in the yard with family and friends, where his infectious laughter was often the soundtrack to many joyful gatherings. His ability to make others laugh was a gift he shared generously, brightening the lives of those around him even in the toughest of times. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Collins Family Mortuary, located at 203 West Shotwell Street. Family, friends, and all whose lives Robert touched are warmly invited to join us as we honor and remember a remarkable man whose spirit will forever remain with us. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Robert during his illness, as well as the compassionate medical staff at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital. Your kindness and care will never be forgotten. As we say goodbye to a beloved father, partner, grandfather, and friend, we find comfort in the legacy of love and laughter that Robert leaves behind. Though he may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
