In loving memory of Robert Earl Copeland Sr., a cherished soul who was born on December 12, 1952, in Anniston, Alabama. Robert's incredible journey through life came to a peaceful close on March 1, 2026, as he transitioned to glory, surrounded by the love and presence of his beloved family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication that will forever warm our hearts.
Robert's life was a tapestry woven with the love of his mother, Mary Copeland Smith, who tenderly raised him until he was fifteen. At that pivotal age, Robert's journey led him to Michigan, where he was embraced by his Aunt Sara Morgan and his Nana Alvana Howard. These remarkable women became cornerstones in his life, nurturing him with love, support, and guidance that Robert treasured until his final days.
Though Robert battled kidney disease and heart failure with immense courage, he was eventually called to reunite with his great-grandmother Ma Cope, Papa, TT Barbara Jean Howard, and Nana Alvana Howard, who preceded him in death. He also joins his father, Roy Newells, and a host of beloved family members who have gone before him.
Robert's heart was forever intertwined with his loving wife, Mariynn Copeland, affectionately known as "Peaches." Together, they created a family filled with love and laughter, adopting Marquise Hargrove, who became Marquise Copeland, and welcoming their beloved daughter, Robyne Copeland, and their son, Robert Copeland Jr. The joy of his life continued with his granddaughters, Rian, Ashley, and London, who brought him immense happiness and pride.
A proud graduate of Cass Technical High School in 1971, Robert always cherished his time there. He went on to study at Ferris State College, where he forged lifelong friendships with Mouse and Roach, sharing countless adventures and the sweet anticipation of Nana's zucchini bread.
Robert dedicated over two decades to the City of Detroit Transit System (DOT), where his work ethic and commitment left an indelible mark. His colleagues and the community alike respected his reliability and genuine care, traits that made him a beloved figure in the city he served so faithfully.
An avid bowler and sports enthusiast, Robert found joy in the camaraderie of the lanes alongside his best friend, Floyd Lee, and cheered passionately for the Detroit Lions and Tigers. His baseball hat collection was a testament to his loyalty and love for his teams.
Those who knew Robert felt the warmth of his laughter, the sincerity of his kindness, and the joy he found in simple moments, whether playing Bid Whist or visiting Anniston, Alabama, where he was fondly known as "Fellowman." His devotion to his Nana and Aunt Sara was a testament to his character, reflecting a heart full of unwavering love and loyalty.
Robert's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4201 Zephyr Rd., Killeen, TX 76543. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring his extraordinary life and legacy.
