Robert Cecil Scroggins Sr.
January 19, 1942 — May 4, 2026
It is with heavy but grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Cecil Scroggins Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on May 4, 2026, at his home. Born on January 19, 1942, in Hill City, Kansas, Robert lived a full and vibrant life filled with love and laughter.
Robert, affectionately known to many as a gentle and kind soul, was the cherished son of Helen and Lynol Scroggins. He shared his early years with his siblings Phyllis, Patricia, Donald, William, and James, all of whom have preceded him in death. He also reunites in heaven with his loving wife, Charlestine, and children, Robert C. Scroggins, Jr. and Denice. Robert's family was his pride and joy, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Educated in the Kansas City, Kansas area, Robert attended school in USD 500, where he built the foundation for a life of hard work and dedication. His career spanned several decades, starting as a line operator for General Motors Corporation, followed by his skilled work as a sheet metal operator for Shostak Metal Company. He eventually retired with fond memories from his role as a custodian for the Turner School District. His work ethic and commitment were admired by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Robert was a devoted member of the Trinity A.M.E. Church, where he found community and shared his faith with others. His passions extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid outdoorsman who reveled in the simple joys of nature. Robert's love for the sunshine, fresh air, swimming, and music—especially the soulful tunes of Motown—brought a rhythm to his life that was as infectious as it was uplifting. He and Charlestine could often be found dancing to their favorite tracks, embodying a love that was palpable.
Family gatherings, full of laughter and warmth, were among Robert's most treasured moments. He was a master at the grill, infusing each Bar-B-Que with love and flavor, and he relished every opportunity to bring his family together. His annual pilgrimages to Hill City and Nicodemus, Kansas, were a testament to his love for family heritage and tradition. The parades, town hall gatherings, and family storytelling sessions were events he eagerly anticipated, cherishing the moments where history and family were celebrated.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert Anthony (Tony) Scroggins and Robin Durham, along with a plethora of grandchildren—Jessika, Akisha, Keith, Gerisha, Clarence, Ty'Reel, and Ebony—each carrying forward his legacy. He also leaves behind 18 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his presence. His extended family and friends, too many to name, will forever hold him in their hearts.
As we mourn the loss of Robert, we also celebrate the remarkable life he lived. The family extends its deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time of bereavement. Your acts of kindness, prayers, visits, and concern have been a source of comfort and strength.
Robert Cecil Scroggins Sr.'s journey on this earth may have ended, but the love and wisdom he imparted will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever dancing in the sunlight that he so dearly loved.
