Robert 'Bob' Hynes

August 14, 1945 — March 7, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert 'Bob' Hynes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us suddenly at his home on March 7, 2023. Born on August 14, 1945, in Ogdensburg, NY, Bob was the beloved son of the late Ralph and Hazel (Cleland) Hynes. Bob's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community. He grew up on the family farm in Depeyster and graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1963. His early years were marked by a deep connection to the land and the people around him. He worked first at Agway Farm Supply in Heuvelton and Madrid for many years while also fulfilling his dream of owning and operating two dairy farms. Later, he concluded his career as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Heuvelton, a role in which he found great joy in connecting with his community. On November 20, 1971, Bob married the love of his life, Connie Ethridge, at the Ogdensburg Methodist Church. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, celebrating 54 wonderful years of marriage. Bob was a devoted father to his daughters, Jennifer Hynes (partner Roger Bushey) and Julie (husband Derrick) Gray. He found immense joy in being a grandfather to five adoring grandchildren: Tyler, Cole, and Madisyn Bushey, and Landan and Jaxson Gray. He is survived by his brother, Paul (Judy Bailey) Hynes and his sisters, Bernice Henry, Betty (Bob) Poor, and Donna Hynes (Gary Risley). Bob also leaves behind a close nephew, Curt (Jennifer) Ethridge, with whom he shared a special bond. Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard and Vernon, and his infant sister, Mary Margaret. A man of many passions, Bob enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace in hunting and spending time in the woods. Summers were spent on the river at camp, where his laughter echoed across the water. A devoted sports fan, he cheered zealously for the Yankees, the New York Giants, and especially, the Heuvelton Bulldogs. Bob's love for travel and casinos added a touch of adventure to his life. He was also a voracious reader and found great comfort in the melodies of classic country music. Bob was a pillar of the Heuvelton community, a member of the Heuvelton Fire Department, where he served with dedication for many years. Even after retiring, he continued to enjoy the camaraderie of weekly coffee hours at the fire station, a testament to his enduring friendships. Beyond his achievements and interests, Bob will be remembered for his generous spirit and kind heart. He never hesitated to lend a hand to family and friends, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. A service to honor Bob's remarkable life will be held at Fox Murray Funeral Home in Ogdensburg, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department, in memory of Bob's dedicated service to his community. Bob will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the entire community. His legacy of love and kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.
