Robert Bell

Robert Bell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 29, 2026, at the VA Hospital's Serenity Care, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 6, 1943, in Indianola, Mississippi, Robert's life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and love. Robert was the beloved son of Mary Riley and Riley Myrick, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, Ms. A.B. Cleveland, Jerry Bell, Columbus and Anna Hood, and his sisters Anna Howard-Cole, Gwendolyn Tyler, Rebecca Howard, and stepbrother Robert Douglas. Despite these profound losses, Robert's spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to impart love and wisdom to those around him. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary, with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful blended family, celebrating the love and joy brought by their children and grandchildren. Robert is lovingly remembered by his son, Roberto Bell of Bamburg, Germany, and daughter, Rashaun Bell of Chicago. His legacy is further cherished by his grandchildren, Donniece Bell and Shawn Randall, as well as his stepdaughters, Delonese Smart (Michael) and Janae Norris, and their children. His dear Aunt Melbernice Lenoir also survives him. Robert's life was marked by dedication and service, beginning with his time in the U.S. Army from December 1960 to June 1970. His military career saw him rise to the rank of PFC E3 (P) and took him to Fort Hood, Texas, and Germany, where he served with distinction in the Vietnam War. He was part of the 82nd Airborne Engineers and the Imjin Scout Special Forces Unit, and he played a crucial role in supporting the 78th Combat Engineers on Freedom Bridge. After his military service, Robert's career journey led him to various roles, including working as a driver for Purolator Courier, a file clerk supervisor for the Department of Public Aid, and a dedicated employee at Marshall Fields. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through as he founded Bell Construction, a painting and carpentry business where he expressed his creative talents. Robert's faith was a guiding force in his life. He was an active member of the Maranatha Church of God in Christ, where he rededicated his life to Christ and served as a member of the usher board and an assistant bus driver. His commitment to his church community was a testament to his caring and generous nature. A man of many talents, Robert was known for his charismatic smile and his ability to prepare delicious meals, a skill he honed at K34 Cook School in the military. He was an avid fisherman, a skill he learned from his grandfather, and he delighted in sharing his Tai Chi and Jujitsu techniques. His smooth dance moves and years as a DJ brought joy to many gatherings. Family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched are invited to celebrate Robert's life on August 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM. The service location and address are to be determined. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospital and staff for the compassionate care they provided Robert. They also express deep appreciation to everyone who supported them during this challenging time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made in Robert's memory to a charity of your choice.
