In Loving Memory of Robert Anthony Verastigue Sr.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Anthony Verastigue Sr., a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on April 19, 2026, at the age of 62. Robert passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego, California, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on August 31, 1963, in the vibrant city of San Diego, Robert was the cherished son of the late Josephine and Miguel Verastigue. He was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. Robert’s early years laid the foundation for a life filled with passion, humor, and dedication.
Robert was a proud graduate of Mesa Community College, where he earned his Associate Degree in Landscape Construction. His love for nature and design flourished as he embarked on a career that spanned over three decades, working for various landscape companies in San Diego. He also nurtured his entrepreneurial spirit by designing and installing custom landscapes on his own. Robert’s dedication to his craft extended to his role as an Instructor's Assistant at Mesa Community College, where he inspired others with his expertise and enthusiasm.
A man of many interests, Robert was a diehard Chicago Bears fan, whose spirit shone brightly with each game. He was an avid comic book collector, with a keen eye for unique finds. For more than 20 years, Robert delighted in sharing his passion for sports cards and comic books with others at Kobey's Swap Meet. His love for cooking was legendary, and he was a master on the barbecue grill, famously declaring that charcoal was the only way to go.
Robert was known for his quick wit and goofy sense of humor, qualities that endeared him to friends and family alike. His son’s playful, albeit obnoxious, jokes were met with laughter and love, a testament to Robert’s easygoing nature and infectious joy for life.
Robert is survived by his devoted children, Robert Verastigue II (Sunny Carey) and Desiree Polanco (Joshua); his caring siblings, sisters Sandra Yates (Henry) and Elizabeth Verastigue, and brother Stephen Verastigue. He was a proud and doting grandfather to four wonderful grandchildren: Isabella, Sofia, Giovanni, and Giada. Robert also leaves behind his cherished Aunt Jean Scott, and his close friends Gaby and Matt Harding, who were like family to him.
He is reunited in peace with his parents, Josephine and Miguel, and his brother, Miguel Jesse, whose memories he held close to his heart.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on June 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Salli Lynn Chapel, Greenwood Memorial Park, located at 4300 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113. Family, friends, and all those touched by Robert’s warmth and kindness are invited to join in honoring his remarkable life.
Robert Anthony Verastigue Sr. will forever be remembered for his love, laughter, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit will live on in the stories we share and the memories we cherish. Rest in peace, dear Robert, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
