It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Robert Allen Essl, who departed this life on May 4, 2026, at the age of 87, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born on October 8, 1938, in LaSalle, Illinois, to the late John and Helen (née St. Pierre) Essl. His passing marks the conclusion of a life filled with love, devotion, and a remarkable legacy that will be cherished by those who knew him.
Bob was a proud 1957 graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School in LaSalle, Illinois, where he laid the foundation for a life of learning and service.A 1975 graduate of Illinois Valley Community College. Answering the call of duty, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, a testament to his enduring commitment to serve and protect.
In 1985, Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Hanser Essl, beginning a journey shared with laughter, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Together for 40 years, they built a family and a life filled with joy and enduring love.
Bob was a dedicated and talented Design Engineer with Westinghouse/ABB, where he contributed his skills and expertise until his retirement in 2000. His work ethic and innovative mind were admired and respected by colleagues and friends alike.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brother Richard J. Essl, his first spouse Mary Lynn (nee Boyd) and his cherished grandson, Alexander W. White. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his devoted wife, Nancy; his daughters Wendy (Lloyd) Wilson and Gay Lynn (Bill) White; his son, Robert W. Essl; as well as his bonus daughters, Jane Hanser and Teresa Fulton. Bob's legacy extends to his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Redcrest Hospice and the compassionate staff at Stonecroft, whose care and dedication provided comfort during Bob's final days. We are eternally grateful for their support.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. His family finds solace in the memories they shared and the love that will forever bind them.
Bob will be remembered as a man of integrity, kindness, and warmth. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on this world.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bob's memory, as a tribute to the generous spirit that defined his life.
