Robert Alexander LaPrairie
December 22, 1941 — May 2, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Robert Alexander LaPrairie on May 2, 2026, at the age of 84. Bob, as he was affectionately known, peacefully succumbed to vascular dementia, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication that will forever inspire those who knew him.
Born on December 22, 1941, in Bolton Landing, NY, Robert was welcomed into the world at his grandparents' house by his loving parents, Wilbur and Gladys (Wilcox) LaPrairie. He spent his formative years in Bolton Landing, where he graduated from Bolton High School in 1959. Upon graduation, his father, Wilbur, recruited him into the Navy, where Bob proudly served his country for four years as an airman controller. This experience marked the beginning of a lifetime of service and hard work.
Bob was a "jack of all trades," a title he wore with pride. He dedicated himself to numerous vocations, including firefighter, truck driver, plumber, pipefitter, and fire sprinkler installer. Despite the long hours and physically demanding work, Bob never complained, finding joy in providing for his family. He was a living example of hard work and dedication, values that he passed on to his children through both words and actions.
In 1973, Bob married the love of his life, Sharon Williams, and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Their journey began with a celebration at the "Last Chance Saloon," a fitting start for a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Together, they raised a beautiful family and shared countless memories, including camping trips, hunting, and fishing excursions, and road trips through the scenic back roads of Upstate New York.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bob's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, and their children: Steven Gibeault (Jodi), Amy LaPrairie, Robert Gibeault, Jr., Jeffrey Gibeault (Tara), Danielle Goertzen (Brad), and David LaPrairie (Charles Chauvin). He was a proud grandfather to Arielle, Isabella, Ryan, Noah, Ava, Alexander, Abigail, and Travis. Bob also leaves behind his cherished sister, Izumi Coplin (Curt), along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his quiet strength and generous spirit.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur and Gladys, and his son, Robert J. LaPrairie, whose memories he held dear.
Though he never sought the spotlight, Bob found joy in the happiness of those around him. Whether square dancing with Sharon, cheering for the Buffalo Bills, or watching a NASCAR race, Bob embraced life's simple pleasures. He was known for his love of Maine, Old Forge, and Lake Placid, and for his frequent visits to local favorites like the Full Moon and the Docksider, where he enjoyed the company of friends over a drink.
A memorial service to honor Bob's life will be held at Kilmer Funeral Home, located at 136 Main St, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Soldiers’ Angels (https://soldiersangels.org/) or the Dementia Society of America (https://dementiasociety.charityproud.org/), reflecting Bob's dedication to service and compassion for others.
In closing, Bob's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Glens Falls Center, especially Lynzee and Ryleigh, for their dedicated care and support. Bob's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched, reminding us all of the power of love and the importance of family.
