Robert A Volk
October 8, 1931 — March 2, 2026
Robert A. Volk, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on October 8, 1931, in Cherryvale, Kansas, Robert led a life marked by service, love, and adventure, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and warmth.
The son of Glen and Iva Volk, Robert was raised with a strong sense of community and family values, which he carried throughout his life. After graduating from Cherryvale High School in 1951, Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Aboard the USS Castor (AKS-1), he faced challenges with courage, including enduring a fierce storm that left the ship adrift for 22 hours before repairs could be made. His time in the Navy was a testament to his resilience and unwavering spirit.
After his military service, Robert pursued his education with vigor, graduating from Pittsburg State University in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. His determination and dedication were evident as he balanced his studies with managing the Cherryvale swimming pool and working as a short order cook at Chicken Annies.
In 1956, Robert married the love of his life, Karolyn K. (Donnel) Volk, embarking on a journey of 50 beautiful years together until her untimely passing in 2007. Their union was blessed with three children: Robert (Gigi) Volk, Robin (David) Landes, and Craig Volk, who filled their lives with joy and love.
Robert's career path was as varied and vibrant as his personality. From insurance salesman in Denver to working at Swift & Company, and later as a food broker for Banker Nichols Food Brokerage, Robert's professional journey took him and his family across Colorado, ultimately settling in Westminster and Pinecliffe until his retirement in 1993.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was known for his creative spirit and craftsmanship. He found joy in woodworking, crafting furniture for his grandchildren, and creating birdhouses and yard art that brought smiles to many at craft fairs. In later years, he enjoyed the art of repurposing furniture alongside his dear companion, Kari Friend, with whom he shared many adventures.
Robert was a man of strong character, known for his firm handshake and a sense of humor that could light up any room. His generosity and responsiveness were especially felt by those who rented from him, as he always went the extra mile to meet their needs.
He is survived by his children, Robert, Robin, and Craig; his grandchildren, Brandon, Travis, Benjamin, Mary, and Christopher; and his great-grandchildren, Theodore and Willa. His memory will also be cherished by his many nieces, nephews, and his close friend, Kari Friend. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karolyn, his parents, Glen and Iva, and his sister, Carol James.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center and his doctors for their exceptional care and compassion during Robert's last days.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor and celebrate Robert's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Robert's memory, a fitting tribute to a man whose life was defined by service and love.
Robert A. Volk will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his indelible impact on the lives of those who knew him. He lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured for generations to come.
