Born in the charming town of Clinton, Massachusetts, on November 7, 1932, Robert lived a remarkable life marked by devotion, creativity, and service. Robert was the cherished son of Anthony and Mary Gannon, who instilled in him the values of resilience and dedication. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marcia B. Gannon, with whom he shared an incredible journey of love and companionship since their marriage on October 20, 1957. His sister, Marie Constant (Gannon), and brother, John Gannon, also preceded him in death. A proud alumnus of Clinton High School, Robert graduated in 1951 before serving his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps. From 1951 to 1955, he served as an aviation ordnance man, reaching the rank of Sergeant. His service during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953 was a testament to his bravery and commitment. Upon returning home, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Franklin Pierce College. Robert's professional life was as varied and impactful as his personal one. As a young adult, he contributed to the pioneering Minuteman and Mercury space projects, later dedicating his skills to the printed circuit board industry in quality control and assurance roles at Hadco and Sanmina Corporations. His talents extended beyond his career. A gifted poet and published author, Robert expressed his experiences and observations in his acclaimed book, "The Laughter and the Tears." His work, primarily focusing on Marine Corps and military history, resonated with many, with over 100 poems published in Leatherneck Magazine. His poetic legacy is immortalized in bronze plaques across the nation and the world, a testament to his lyrical prowess. Robert's sense of humor and quick wit were legendary, endearing him to all who knew him. He often regaled friends and family with tales of his beloved pet, Henry, weaving these stories into enchanting narratives for his grandchildren. His warmth and creativity left a lasting impression on his eight grandchildren, who cherished their grandfather's stories and wisdom. A lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Marine Corps League, Robert's commitment to his fellow veterans and community was unwavering. His legacy is carried forward by his children, Bradford, Edward, Kevin, David, and Krista Collins (Gannon), and Henry, his faithful companion. Robert A. Gannon's life was a tapestry of love, service, and creativity. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a man who lived with integrity, humor, and a profound sense of duty. His memory will forever be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
