It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert A. Bryan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on March 24, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on August 2, 1935, in Montpelier, Vermont, Bob was the cherished son of the late Stuart R. Bryan and Hortensia Maria del Carmen Gomez Bryan.
Bob was a man of warmth and integrity, known for his friendly smile and genuine interest in others. His journey through life was filled with enriching experiences and meaningful connections. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Stuart R. Bryan Jr., and his son-in-law Dale Caldwell, leaving behind a legacy of love and wisdom.
He is survived by Clara, his devoted wife of 66 years, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising four wonderful children: Kevin (Deb), Kathleen Dirmaier (James), Kristine Caldwell, and Kimberly Swartz (Troy). Bob was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He leaves behind his brother Richard Bryan (Dinah), and many Bryan and Gomez cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory.
Bob graduated from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier, VT, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Vermont. His dedication to serving his country was evident in his time with the US Navy, aboard the destroyer USS Fiske, where he forged bonds and stories that he would carry with him throughout his life.
Professionally, Bob was a respected Loan Manager for Commercial Credit, the Vermont Federal Bank, and Chittenden Bank, until his retirement in 1997. His career was marked by a commitment to helping others achieve their dreams, a reflection of his generous spirit.
His life was rich with hobbies and interests that showcased his love for nature and creativity. Bob was an avid hiker and camper, conquering all the major peaks in Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and Maine. He was in the process of building a new model railroad layout, a testament to his lifelong passion for crafting and design. Bob also collected model British soldiers, proudly displaying 250 of them along the shelves of his library. His talent for designing and building was evident in the many additions he created for his family home.
A man of faith, Bob was a dedicated member of St. Pius X Church and the Knights of Columbus, and he actively participated in the American Legion. As a charter member of the Vermont Audubon Society, he demonstrated his love for wildlife and the environment.
Bob's ability to engage with people from all walks of life made him a cherished friend to many. His conversations were filled with warmth and curiosity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on April 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, located on Jericho Road, Essex, VT. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice Home Care and McClure Respite House for their compassionate care.
