Born on May 13, 1980, in Washington, DC, Robert was a cherished son, father, brother, fiancé, and friend. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and love, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured by all who had the privilege to know him. Robert was the beloved son of the late James Robert Covington and Dorothy Mae Covington, and he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Mattie Jones, as well as his uncles, aunts, and many dear cousins. Raised in a nurturing and vibrant community, Robert's early years were filled with the love and guidance of his family. A proud graduate of Coolidge High School, Robert pursued a career in technology, earning an associate's degree in Computer Science. His professional journey led him to U.S. Refuse Removal Inc., where he found not just a job, but a calling that he embraced with passion and commitment. His colleagues and friends admired him for his dedication and infectious enthusiasm. Beyond his career, Robert was a man of diverse interests. Sundays were his special days, dedicated to cooking delicious meals for his loved ones—a tradition that brought joy and warmth to those around him. An admirer of nature’s beauty, Robert found solace in scootering through the city, marveling at the cherry blossoms, and reading biblical scriptures in the park. His unwavering support for the Washington Commanders, whom he fondly referred to as the Redskins, reflected his loyalty and spirited nature. Robert's character was marked by an extraordinary generosity. Known for giving even the shoes off his feet to those in need, his acts of kindness were countless and deeply felt by all who crossed his path. His sense of humor brightened the darkest of days, bringing laughter and cheer to family, friends, and co-workers. He is survived by his beloved sister, Mary Jones of Hyattsville, MD; his cherished children, LaMaiya Covington and Robert Covington, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; his devoted fiancé, Angel Owens of Hyattsville, MD; his loving aunts, Ethel Claiborne and Donna Jones; and his God-sisters, God-son, and a wide circle of cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. Robert’s life will be celebrated on September 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Capital Mortuary Funeral Home, located at 1425 Maryland Avenue N.E., Washington, DC 20002. The family expresses deep gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, support, and kindness during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and So Others May Eat(S.O.M.E), a cause that was close to Robert’s heart.
