January 22, 1946 — September 7, 2026

It is with both sadness and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Rita Merrill, who departed this life peacefully at her home on September 7, 2026. Born on January 22, 1946, in Connecticut, Rita brought light and joy into the world that will continue to shine brightly through the lives she touched. Rita was blessed with a wonderful marriage to her beloved husband, Bruce Merrill, whom she married in Alameda, California. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. After Bruce's passing, Rita's strength and resilience remained a testament to her enduring spirit. Her greatest pride and joy were her three children, Joanne Merrill, Jennifer Grasso, and Keith Merrill, who brought her endless happiness. Rita was also the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren—Robert Merrill, Amanda Munday, Megan, Jake Merrill, James Grasso, Carly, and Emma Merrill—each of whom she adored deeply. Her legacy of love continues through her four great-grandchildren, who brought her immense delight. Rita was not only devoted to her family but also to her community. She was known for her quick wit, warm smile, and her uncanny ability to offer a perfectly timed Mom joke to lighten any mood. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and she had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. A passionate supporter of her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and activities, Rita was their number one cheerleader, always present with enthusiastic support. Her garden was another source of joy, where she found peace and fulfillment, nurturing her plants with the same care and attention she gave to her family and friends. Rita's dedication extended beyond her family as she volunteered tirelessly at her local church, forming lasting friendships and strengthening her community. A service to celebrate Rita's remarkable life will take place on November 5, 2026, at the Church Name in Auburn, California. In remembrance of Rita, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in her honor to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of generosity and compassion. Rita Merrill's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering support. She leaves behind a tapestry of beautiful memories and a family forever grateful for her presence in their lives. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
