July 23, 1950 — May 23, 2026

Rita DeDilectis Mayer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 23, 2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 23, 1950, in the picturesque town of Torre del Greco in Naples, Italy, Rita brought the warmth and vibrancy of her birthplace into every aspect of her life. One of nine children, Rita immigrated to the United States with her family at just five years old, carrying with her the rich traditions, resilience, and spirit of her Italian roots throughout her life. Her sudden passing, following a devastating illness, has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew her. Rita is survived by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Lawrence Mayer. Together, they raised four adoring children: Christina Mayer, Marianna Mayer, Larry Mayer, and Teresa Mayer DelPozo, each of whom carries forward her legacy of love and compassion. Rita was the proud grandmother to her cherished granddaughter, Madeline Mayer, and the beloved mother-in-law to Kelly (Ballinger) Mayer and Brian DelPozo. Rita’s professional journey began in New York City, where she worked as a secretary for various financial institutions. However, her heart found true fulfillment in her role as a homemaker, dedicating herself to raising her children and creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, tradition, and unconditional love. Her culinary talents, especially her traditional Italian dishes and holiday desserts, became the centerpiece of cherished family gatherings and lasting memories. Years later, Rita returned to the workforce, where her charisma, intelligence, and natural gift for connecting with people quickly stood out. At Macy’s, she rose from sales associate to manager, earning recognition for achieving the highest sales on the East Coast in her department. She later shared a special chapter of her life working alongside her cherished friend, the late Arlene Terrio, creating beautiful gifts and baskets together. Rita also worked alongside renowned criminal attorney Ron Fischetti and later served as a lunch aide in the public school system, where her nurturing spirit and caring heart touched the lives of countless children. A devoted Catholic, Rita’s faith was the foundation of her life. Her spirituality gave her strength, resilience, and a deep sense of compassion for others. She found joy in cooking, baking, knitting, music, reading, and meaningful conversations with the people she loved. Her home was always open to others — a place where family and friends gathered, laughed, ate well, and felt welcomed. Rita will forever be remembered for her intelligence, warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit. She had a sharp wit, a quick mind, and an extraordinary ability to make people feel heard and understood. She was empathetic, fiercely loyal, generous, resilient, and endlessly supportive of those she loved. Rita believed in getting back up when life knocked you down, and she inspired others through her positivity, strength, and unwavering encouragement. A service to honor and celebrate Rita’s remarkable life will be held on May 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church. Though Rita’s physical presence is no longer with us, the love she gave, the traditions she created, and the strength she instilled in those around her will live on forever. Her memory will remain a guiding light to all who were blessed enough to know and love her.
