It is with profound sorrow and deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Rita Butler on April 10, 2026. Rita, aged 82, peacefully departed this world leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering spirit. She was born on October 30, 1943, in the heart of South Carolina to the late John and Lee Butler. Rita’s journey was marked by her steadfast dedication to her family, her community, and her personal pursuits. She was wed to her dear husband, Chris Butler, on April 29, 1965. Together, they shared 35 beautiful years of marriage before Chris's passing last year. Their union was one of mutual respect, love, and shared dreams, and it was a profound source of happiness for Rita throughout her life. Rita's educational journey began in South Carolina’s public schools and led her to the bustling avenues of New York City, where she attended college. Her career spanned 26 years in the Federal Government, where she served with distinction and integrity. She retired in 2001, bringing her back to the South Carolina she so loved, where she could be closer to her roots and her cherished community. Her passion for community service was boundless; she was a dedicated member of her local church and found immense joy in volunteering. Whether assisting with church events or participating in local initiatives, Rita's presence was a beacon of hope and warmth. Her community valued her contributions and cherished her vibrant spirit. In her leisure, Rita found joy in the simple pleasure of playing Bingo, a pastime that brought her much happiness and camaraderie with friends. Her personal style was unmistakable; she was known for her impeccable punctuality and her fondness for the color blue, which she wore with grace and elegance. Rita leaves behind 5 children: Robert Butler Jr., Melvin Butler, Charlie Proctor, Elaine Proctor, James Butler and 7 great-grandchildren: Robert Jr. Butler, Dusty Butler, Tonia Butler, Mark Butler, Sheila Butler, Leslie Proctor and Nikki Proctor : Who Will forever honor her memory: Her love for her family was boundless, and she found great joy in her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, always providing guidance, love, and support. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Rita's memory, in keeping with her wishes. Although she is no longer with us, the memories of her love, laughter, and unwavering spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. In celebrating Rita Butler’s life, we remember her as a devoted family member, a respected community volunteer, and a beloved friend. Her legacy will live on in the stories we share, in the hearts she touched, and in the community she helped to nurture. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to her church or a charity of choice, reflecting her life-long commitment to helping others.
