Rita (Bartolo) Cooper, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and Diet Coke. Born on August 18, 1946, in Chicago, IL, Rita was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Anne Bartolo. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Patricia Meike.
Rita graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1964, where she laid the foundation for a lifetime of achievement. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Dayton in Ohio, followed by a master's degree from DePaul University. Her dedication to and love for her profession was enduring, as she devoted over 50 years to her work as a Certified Public Accountant, retiring in 2023. Rita was known for her meticulous attention to detail, her trusted 1040s, and her signature blue plastic solo cup filled with Diet Coke, complete with a bendy straw. Her adding machine was never far from reach, a testament to her love for numbers.
Rita's vibrant personality was marked by her quick wit, intelligence, and an unwavering love for the color navy blue, reflected in her cherished 1989 Toyota Supra. She found joy in simple pleasures, like reading, dancing to country music, and collecting Harvard memorabilia. Her greatest delight, however, was spending time with her two grandsons, Zephram and Adrik, whose playful energy brought her endless happiness.
A woman of great generosity and compassion, Rita was known for her charitable spirit. She believed deeply in the importance of giving back and instilled these values in her children, Lindsey (Matthew) and Randall (Amanda), who carry forward her legacy of kindness. Alongside her children, she is survived by her sisters, Mary Lou Wilkin and Denise Smith, and her beloved grandchildren, Zephram and Adrik, who will always remember her warmth and wisdom.
Rita's family invites friends and loved ones to remember her by contributing to a charity of their choice, honoring her lifelong commitment to helping others. Though she has left this world, Rita's spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her laughter, generosity, and the love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.
