Rita Ann Hudson

September 3, 1929 — May 20, 2026

It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Rita Ann Hudson, on May 20, 2026. Born on September 3, 1929, in the picturesque town of Sault Ste. Marie, Rita's journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit. The daughter of John and Madeline Raffaele, Rita was part of a lively household on Brown Street in Little Italy, where she grew up alongside 10 siblings. Her early years were filled with the joyful chaos of a large family, and she carried the lessons learned in those formative days throughout her life. She graduated from Sault High, setting the stage for a life of commitment and hard work. For 15 years, Rita dedicated herself to her career at Michigan Bell, where her diligence and quick wit were cherished by colleagues and customers alike. Later, her heart found a special place at Rosini's Restaurant, where she worked among family, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that was a hallmark of her character. A lifetime member of the Christopher Columbus Hall, Rita was deeply embedded in her community, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. Her love for the Detroit Red Wings was legendary, and she could often be found cheering them on, her passion for the team as vibrant as her personality. Family was the cornerstone of Rita's life. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, siblings, and her cherished daughter, Stephanie. Her legacy continues through her surviving children: James (Sonny) Gordon and his wife Akemi, Holly Norquest and her husband Harry, and Tracey Lounds and her husband Jonathan. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Ernest Tadgerson, Drew Gordon, William Hersha Jr., Wrayanne Hersha Norquest, Roseanna Hanson, Harry Norquest II, Brandon Gordon, Alexander Gordon, Stephanie Lounds, and Charles Lounds, and she was further blessed with three great-grandchildren. Her influence extended to many loved nieces and nephews, each touched by her kindness and humor. Rita was known for her hard-working nature and sharp wit, traits that endeared her to all who knew her. She cherished the moments spent with family, whether gathered around the dinner table or enjoying the simple pleasures of life. As we bid farewell to Rita, we celebrate the rich tapestry of her life—one woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. Her legacy of warmth and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
