It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Riley Wayne Powell, who left us on April 30, 2026. Riley was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, whose presence brought warmth and light to the lives of all who knew him. Born on November 18, 2005, in Washington, Indiana, Riley's life, though brief, was filled with moments that will be cherished forever.
Riley was the cherished son of Nancy Powell and the late Steven Powell. He was deeply loved by his surviving family, including his devoted uncles, Dwayne Mercer and Steven Powell Jr., his caring great-grandmother Betty Powell, his loving grandmother Elaine Wild, and his dear cousin LaTayvia Little. He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Powell, and his great-grandfather, Willie Wayne Powell, who both greeted him with open arms in
Riley grew up in Mound City IL, where he formed lifelong friendships and left an indelible mark on his community. He graduated from Meridian High School in 2024, where he was known for his kind heart, keen intellect, and a contagious smile that could brighten any room. Riley had an innate ability to connect with others, offering compassion and understanding to those in need.
Riley's journey, though tragically short, was filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. He had a passion for music, often finding solace and expression through the melodies he cherished. His close friends remember him as a loyal confidant, always ready with a listening ear and a supportive word.
In his memory, Riley's family has chosen to host a private funeral ceremony, where those closest to him will gather to celebrate his life and the beautiful moments they shared. To honor Riley's legacy, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a suicide prevention organization, to help bring hope and support to others in need.
As we mourn the loss of Riley, we also celebrate the love and joy he brought into our lives. His gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and his memory will continue to inspire kindness and empathy in all who knew him.
Though Riley's time with us was far too short, his impact was immeasurable. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him. May his soul rest in eternal tranquility.
