Ricky Wayne Everett

Ricky Wayne Everett, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 27th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 23, 1948, in Gadsden, Alabama, Ricky was a man whose life was marked by service, love, and dedication to his family and community. Ricky was the cherished son of WM and Louise Everett, who have predeceased him, along with his nephews, Todd Byers and Blake Simmons, and siblings-in-law, Ricky Carroll, Susan Belcher, and Brenda Garner. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lora Everett, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love that began when they married on Christmas Day in 1968. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters: Sheri (Will) Black, Ava Everett (Kenneth Smith), and Susan (Bubba) Fitts, as well as a chosen daughter, Kristie (Lee) Beecham. Ricky's legacy is carried forth by his treasured grandchildren: Taryn Everett, Madison (Corey) Kelley, Kyle Fitts (Jayla Sweeten), and Sidney Fitts, and his great-grandchildren, Rylynn Thornton, Waylon Brown, Loralie Brown, Braxton Kelley, Montana Kelley, Maverick Kelley, and the soon-to-arrive Kohen Everett Fitts. Ricky proudly graduated from Gadsden High School in 1968, shortly thereafter enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He completed boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, and embarked on a distinguished 20-year career in the Marines, which culminated in his role as Master Sergeant Maintenance Crew Chief at MCAS New River, Camp Lejeune. Following his military service, Ricky contributed his talents to various roles in the Gadsden area, from sales and management to parts and commercial management, notably at Ronnie Watkins and AutoZone. A man of faith, Ricky dedicated his life to the Lord in 1992 and found a spiritual home at Reverence Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. His community involvement extended to the Gadsden Masonic Lodge #236 and the Coates Bend Volunteer Fire Department, where he served with honor. Ricky's commitment to service was further exemplified through his work with the McLaughlin Detachment of the Marine Corps League, where he held several leadership roles and passionately supported the Toys for Tots program. Ricky's interests were as vibrant as his character. An ardent Alabama Crimson Tide fan, he delighted in sharing the joy of the game with his family. He found peace and happiness in the Smoky Mountains, particularly in Cades Cove, and was a steadfast supporter of his grandchildren's sporting events at Gaston High School. Known affectionately as "Top" or "Top Everett" to those who served alongside him, Ricky was a man of integrity and strength. His hands-on approach to life and unwavering commitment to his family and country made him a role model to many. He was a man whose laughter could brighten a room and whose love was felt deeply by all who knew him. A service to honor and celebrate Ricky's life will be held at Reverence Baptist Church, located at 115 Princeton Avenue in Gadsden, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Ricky's memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Amedysis Hospice and the Coates Bend Volunteer Fire Department for their support and care during Ricky's final days. Ricky Wayne Everett's legacy of love, service, and devotion will forever live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
