Ricky (Red) Dale Thornburg

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ricky (Red) Dale Thornburg, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on July 23, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on May 3, 1952, in Lakeville, Indiana, to Cloise and Marian (Porter) Thornburg. Rick's life was woven with love, adventure, and a steadfast sense of duty. He was the second of three children, cherished by his siblings Linda Montgomery of Seymour, Indiana, and Tom (Margaret) Thornburg of Pueblo, Colorado. Rick graduated from Oregon-Davis High School in Hamlet, Indiana, in 1970, and shortly thereafter, he pursued technical training in heavy equipment operation—a skill that would serve him well throughout his life. Before embarking on his professional journey, Rick answered the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he dedicated four years of his life, earning an honorable discharge in 1977. His time in the Navy was marked by camaraderie and a deep sense of commitment, qualities that also defined his civilian life. Rick's professional life was spent as a heavy equipment operator and an over-the-road truck driver. His honest and fair treatment in all his business dealings earned him respect and trust from colleagues and friends alike. Rick was a man of integrity, someone on whom you could always rely. Beyond his work, Rick was an avid outdoorsman, with a deep passion for fishing and hunting. His adventures led him to the wilds of Texas, where he hunted wild boar, and to the majestic landscapes of Colorado, where he pursued elk and deer. One of his greatest joys was restoring and racing old cars, a hobby that spoke to his love of craftsmanship and speed. Rick deeply loved his family and friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo for their compassionate care during Rick's final days. Rick's remains have been entrusted for cremation, and a celebration of his life is being planned for a future date, where family and friends will gather to honor the rich tapestry of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rick's memory to a charity of your choice. Rick's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
