Rickey Darnall Watkins

In loving memory of Rickey Darnall Watkins, affectionately known as "Cigar," who passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at Metro General Hospital in Nashville, TN, after courageously battling heart and kidney disease. Born on February 4, 1968, in Nashville, Rickey's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew him. The beloved son of Brenda Joyce Watkins and the late James Edward Davis Jr., Rickey's nurturing family roots extended to include his cherished grandparents, Dorothy Hockett, Evelyn Perkins, James Davis, and Robert Taylor, who preceded him in death. He held a special place in the hearts of his siblings: Shonta Watkins, Ronnie Ladon Watkins, Dexter White, Shonda White, Shavonda Battle, Brandon Dardy, Shakosha, and Lakosha Goodloe. Rickey's journey through life was enriched by his marriage to Kimberly Terrell Dotson on April 16, 2005. Together, they built a family filled with boundless love and joy, raising children Tiffany, Destiny, and Dedrick Watkins, Marquile Claybrooks, Antonique Dotson (Prosper), Rashon Cammon, Rickey Dotson (Ashley), Xavyera Shye, Tori Dotson, Richard Schwabe (Jennifer), and Roniesha White. Cousin Delores Coffeman. His legacy continues through his thirty grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of extended family and friends. His devoted friends Oscar Carter, Freddie Brooks and Lynette Madry (Poo Bear) An alumnus of Pearl Cohn High School and Aviation Technical College, Rickey was a skilled craftsman who dedicated several years to Absolute Custom, where he installed countertops with precision and artistry. Passionate about music, Rickey transformed his home into a nurturing haven for young artists, sharing his wisdom and expertise in his home studio. Rickey created music group called the Splittin Image in which he was one of the lead singers. They performed many times down at the New Era Club back in the 1999's Rickey was a fervent supporter of the Tennessee Titans, finding immense joy in every game, whether from the stands or his living room. His love for music extended beyond mentorship; he relished playing the piano and cherished every moment spent on the basketball court. Cigar, as he was affectionately known, was seldom seen without his signature cigar, a symbol of his unique charm and quick wit. His warm smile and infectious humor brightened the lives of those around him. Known for his generosity, Rickey's kindness was a beacon of light, offering support and laughter to all who crossed his path. A celebration of Rickey's life will be held on August 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Season Baptist Church, located at 1900 S. Hamilton Road, Nashville, TN 37218.
