Richard W. Cowperthwaite

Richard W. Cowperthwaite, aged 68, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, with his loving daughter and devoted brother by his side. Born on October 16, 1957, in Ellsworth, Maine. Richard was a beloved son to Earl and Lottie Cowperthwaite, who preceded him in death. Richard was a man of quiet strength and few words, yet his presence brought comfort and warmth to those who knew him. He dedicated 25 years of his life to working as a heavy equipment loader operator, a role he fulfilled with diligence and skill. Richard's work ethic and steadfast nature earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues and friends alike. Outside of his career, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished time spent with close friends and family, often retreating to his camp property where he felt most at peace. He was known for enjoying a well-mixed Rum & Coke or a cold bud light, a testament to his preference for life's simple joys. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many Mount Desert Island agencies and caregivers whose kindness and compassion illuminated Richard's final months. Their dedication and care will always be remembered with deep appreciation. Richard's life was a testament to the power of quiet strength, love, and the enduring bonds of family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
