Richard Shelton, born on October 7, 1941, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Richard was a man of unwavering dedication and love, whose presence touched the lives of all who knew him. The son of Willie Shelton and Hattie Seals, Richard was raised with strong values of family and perseverance. He is predeceased by his parents, his beloved stepmother Omega Shelton, and his dear sisters, Deborah Shelton and Antrese Shelton. He leaves behind a loving family who cherished him deeply: his sons, Andy Shelton and Cameron Shelton; his brother, Stanley Shelton; his sister, Deadre Briggs; his 12 adoring grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. A proud veteran, Richard served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1961 through 1966. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career as an engineer. He dedicated his professional life to Baker Hughes and later spent 20 enriching years contributing to Imperial Sugar in Sugarland, Texas. Richard was not only a devoted family man but also a man of spirited interests and passions. He had a particular fondness for racing cars, a hobby that fueled his adventurous spirit. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, to whom he devoted much of his time and heart. Known for his hard work and commitment, Richard's legacy is one of love, resilience, and familial dedication. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the VA Hospital in Houston, Texas, for the compassionate care provided to Richard in his final days. In honor of Richard's life, a service will be held on July 15, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at Beresford Funeral Home, located at 13501 Alief Clodine Rd., Houston, Texas 77082. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Richard are invited to celebrate his life and bid farewell to a remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of generosity and kindness.
