With heavy hearts but a spirit of gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Richard Ronald Boykin on May 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with bile duct cancer. Richard was surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unyielding love.
Born on July 20, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard was the cherished son of Richard Henry and Cynthia Ida Boykin. He was a devoted family man, always honoring the memories of his predeceased parents and other beloved family members. Richard's life was a testament to his nurturing spirit and his capacity to love deeply.
Richard leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, Angela Boykin. Their journey began on June 13, 1997, in Crown Point, Indiana, and was marked by two memorable vow renewals, one at Davis Memorial A.M.E. Church in Gary, Indiana, and another in 2015, celebrated with family, friends, and even an Elvis impersonator. Together, they created a family filled with love and shared countless joyful moments at family gatherings, baseball outings, concerts, and holidays.
A proud graduate of Chicago Vocational School, class of 1970, Richard pursued higher education for two years before embarking on a career that showcased his dedication and work ethic. From his early days at High Low Foods in Chicago, working alongside his father, to his roles at the Safer Foundation, the American Bar Association, and Bowne at Winston & Strawn, Richard's professionalism and kindness left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
A man of faith, Richard accepted Christ at a young age at Park Manor Church in Chicago, Illinois. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his life, whether as a member of the usher board or through his involvement with Family Christian Center in Munster, Indiana, and later with Lakepointe Church in Mesquite, Texas.
Richard had a zest for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests. He loved to travel, sing, listen to music, and immerse himself in books and films. His mornings began with a joyful serenade, singing "Good Morning to You" to his wife and sisters-in-law, setting the tone for a day filled with laughter and love.
He was the rock of his family, a best friend to many, and his gentle nature made him a beacon of kindness and generosity. Richard's legacy lives on in his brother, Stephen (Moira) Boykin; his children, David (Kiva) Green and Crystale Jones; and his extensive family, including nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Richard's life will be celebrated at the Kramer Family Funeral Home, located at 118 Harmon Rd, Hurst, TX 76053. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Baylor, Scott and White Hospital, Mesquite Specialty Hospital, and Elaring Caring for their compassionate care during Richard's illness.
In the words of Renee Wood, "Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure." Richard Ronald Boykin touched countless lives, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
