In Loving Memory

Richard Rivers
September 3, 1969 — July 21, 2026
Richard Rivers, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the age of 56 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born on September 3, 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard was a beacon of light and love to all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard was the cherished son of Sylvester Rivers, who preceded him in death, and Darlene Rivers, who survives him. From a young age, he exhibited a remarkable zest for life and an unwavering dedication to his family and community. Richard grew up in a household filled with warmth and laughter, traits he carried throughout his life.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Darlene Rivers, whose strength and grace have been a source of inspiration to him. Richard leaves behind his loving sister, Alberia, and his adored nephew, Noah, who held a special place in his heart. His daughters, Nicole and Racheal, were his pride and joy, and he took immense delight in the accomplishments and happiness of his seven grandchildren: Amyah, Desiree, Brooklyn, Kobi, Nyell, Devin, and Christyl. Richard's legacy of love and kindness will be carried forward by them.
Richard was a man of deep faith, often quoting, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," a sentiment that brought him great comfort and peace. His family wishes to convey this message to those who knew him: "We love you."
The family will celebrate Richard’s life and bid farewell on July 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Zion Hill, located at 12017 Dickerson, Detroit, MI. It will be a time to honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the beautiful life he lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Richard’s honor, as a way to continue his legacy of giving and compassion.
Richard's warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
