September 3, 2024 — April 28, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Richard McRae Mitchell, who left this world far too soon on April 28, 2026. Born on September 3, 2024, in the vibrant community of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Richard was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him in his brief time with us. Richard was the cherished son of Venue and Blanche Mitchell, who have both preceded him in death. Though their time together was short, the love and values instilled by his parents were evident in Richard’s gentle spirit and kind nature. A proud alumnus of Carver High, Richard was known for his curiosity and enthusiasm for life, which he carried with him throughout his days. While his journey through life was brief, Richard's impact was deeply felt. His laughter resonated in the hearts of his family and friends, and his smile could light up the darkest of days. Richard was a child who saw the world with wonder and embraced each moment with an open heart, teaching those around him the true meaning of living in the present. Richard found comfort and care in his final days at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, where he was surrounded by compassionate caregivers who ensured his journey was peaceful and dignified. Though his time on earth was short, Richard’s spirit and the love he shared with those around him will forever remain in our hearts. A memorial service to honor Richard’s beautiful life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Gathered together, we will celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. While we mourn the loss of Richard, we find solace in knowing he is now reunited with his beloved parents. May we all carry forward the lessons of love, kindness, and joy that Richard lived by, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Richard’s memory to a children's charity of your choice, ensuring that his legacy of love and joy continues to touch lives far and wide.
