Richard Maxey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Baylor Hospital on August 20, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Born on November 2, 1947, in New Albany, Mississippi, Richard's life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of family.
Richard was the cherished son of Laura and Leet Maxey, who instilled in him the values of kindness and integrity. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Roy Maxey, whom he dearly missed.
In 1967, Richard married the love of his life, Rose Marie, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Over their 59 years of marriage, they welcomed a beautiful family that includes their daughter Kelly Southward, son Brian Maxey, daughter Kathy Sledge and her husband Jason, and bonus daughter Chassity Cox. Richard's legacy continues through his grandsons, Cameron Sledge and his fiancé Raegan Roland, Noah Southward, and Christian Sledge.
Richard's career began at Texas Instruments, where he worked with dedication until his retirement in 1998. He later joined Dean Foods, where he continued to excel until his retirement in 2012. Outside of his professional life, Richard was a passionate soccer coach for over 20 years, influencing countless young athletes with his competitive spirit and unwavering support.
An artisan at heart, Richard found joy in woodworking, gardening, and baking. He was known for his delicious banana bread, which he generously shared with friends and family, bringing smiles to many faces.
Richard is survived by his loving sisters, Sarah Maxey and Suellen Kennedy, and brothers-in-law Cameron Nixon and his wife Kimberly, and James Nixon and his wife Kelly. He will also be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians and staff caregivers at Baylor Hospital and especially to his niece Carly Cox, RN, for the compassionate care Richard received during his stay.
A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on September 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home, located in Garland Texas.
Richard Maxey will be remembered as a man of great warmth, humility, and generosity. His life was a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
