In Loving Memory

Richard Matthew Voyles
August 27, 1959 — August 14, 2026
Richard Matthew "Matt" Voyles, a beloved father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with an illness. Born on August 27, 1959, in Dumas, Texas, Matt was a beacon of strength and joy to all who knew him.
Matt was the cherished son of Harlen and Pat Voyles. He was predeceased by his father, Harlen, and his sister, Melissa Hobbs, whose memories he always carried in his heart. He is survived by his loving mother, Pat Voyles, who was his steadfast supporter throughout his life.
Matt was a proud graduate of Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas, class of 1978, where his love for sports blossomed. A dedicated athlete, he excelled in football and wrestling, and later became an avid fan of college and professional football. His passion for the game was matched only by his love for nature, with Palo Canyon holding a special place in his heart. The great outdoors was his playground and sanctuary.
A man of many talents, Matt was truly a "jack of all trades." Throughout his varied career, he was known for his hard work and passionate dedication. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tahoka, Texas, where he found community and spiritual solace.
Matt's life was enriched by his family, whom he adored beyond measure. He is survived by his sons Shane, Nathan, Christopher, and Tyson Voyles, and his daughter Elizabeth Voyles. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Ozzie, Maddox, Ruby, Liesl, Tillie, Indie, and Theodore (affectionately known as "Teddy Bear"). He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Rick Hobbs, niece Sarah Perez, nephew Nathan Hobbs, and his uncle Billy Everett and wife Cheryl, along with a host of extended family and friends too numerous to name.
Known for his quick wit and infectious smile, Matt had a unique ability to bring joy and laughter to any room. His jokes were endless, and his dancing could brighten the darkest of days. His quirky sense of humor and the warmth he exuded will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Matt's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
