January 1, 1962 — May 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Lee Mercer Jr., a loving father, dedicated professional, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully of natural causes on May 16, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on January 1, 1962, in the small town of Genoa, Ohio, Richard was the beloved son of Darlene and Richard Mercer Sr., and became an integral part of a family that valued love and togetherness above all. Richard grew up in Genoa, where he formed the foundation of his values and ethics. He was a proud graduate of Genoa High School, where he built lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of community. In 2001, he furthered his education by becoming a Microsoft Certified Professional, a testament to his dedication to both personal growth and professional excellence. Richard's career was as diverse as it was impactful. He served with honor at the Northwood Fire Department, where his bravery and selflessness safeguarded countless lives. His work at Diamond Crystal was marked by diligence and a commitment to quality, and he approached every task with the same caring nature that defined his character. A simple man at heart, Richard found immense joy in the company of his children and grandchildren. He was never happier than when he was spending time with his kids, Hollie Nicole Bowhay, Jodie Lynn Mercer, and Christopher Robin Mercer. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures, from riding go-carts to four-wheeling, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His ten grandchildren—Brady, Caiden, Gracie, Dakota, Amelia, Wyatt, Mazie, Walker, William, and Camryn—were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment he spent with them, watching them grow and thrive. Richard is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Darlene, and his sisters, Ronni Diefenthaler and Rainy Clow. Their memories continued to inspire him throughout his life, and their spirits lived on in the kindness and love he shared with others. In his passing, Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. He taught those around him the true meaning of family and friendship, and his influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. As we say goodbye to Richard, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that touched many. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light for his family and friends. A memorial service to honor Richard's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears as they remember a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it. Until we meet again, Richard, may you rest in eternal peace.
