Richard Lathan
April 25, 1948 — March 2, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Lathan, a cherished father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Richard was born on April 25, 1948, in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California, to his loving parents, Artis Lathan, Sr. and Clementine Lathan. On March 2, 2026, at the age of 77, Richard peacefully slipped away, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Richard's early years were spent in the bustling neighborhoods of Los Angeles, where he attended Long Beach Poly High School, graduating in 1962. Following his education, Richard answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy. His time in the Navy was a reflection of his innate discipline, courage, and unwavering dedication—qualities that he carried with him throughout his life.
After his honorable service, Richard embarked on a career as a dedicated truck driver. For many years, he took pride in his work, understanding the vital role he played in keeping goods and communities connected. The long hours on the road were a testament to his commitment and perseverance, and in 2020, he retired, having left an indelible mark on the industry and those he worked with.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of simple pleasures and profound connections. He found joy in fishing, a pastime that allowed him to find peace and solitude in nature. His kitchen was often filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals, which he lovingly prepared, nourishing both body and soul. Richard also delighted in gathering family and friends around the table for a lively game of cards, filling the room with laughter and creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Richard had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. He was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. His presence brought comfort, and his words carried meaning. Richard's life was a testament to perseverance, service, and enduring love, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his children: Rachel, Kimmney, Lashanda, Dameon, Jeanie, and Richard Lathan Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Kameron and Ryan; and his nieces, Joycelynn, Kiyona, Nezhara, and Terronesha. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit endures in the love and memories shared by his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held on March 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1199 Utoy Springs Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. We invite all who knew Richard to join us in honoring his life and legacy.
