Richard L. Kane, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 2, 2026, after a long illness. Born on April 27, 1944, in Clinton, Iowa, Richard lived a life full of warmth, dedication, and cherished memories, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know him.
Richard was the cherished son of Leland and Mary Alice (Bush) Kane. He grew up in a nurturing environment in Fulton, Illinois, where he graduated from Fulton High School in 1963. Following his education, Richard answered the call of duty and served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969. His service to his country was a testament to his unwavering commitment and sense of responsibility.
In 1969, Richard married the love of his life, Ginny, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love and partnership that spanned 57 beautiful years. Their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them, marked by mutual respect, laughter, and an unbreakable bond.
Richard built a fulfilling career at DuPont, where he dedicated 32.5 years of service until his retirement in 2001. He was a man of integrity, known for his hard work and dedication, qualities that defined him both professionally and personally. His colleagues and friends often spoke of his kindness, humor, and the genuine care he showed to everyone he met.
A man of many talents and interests, Richard found joy in woodworking and had a particular fondness for ducks. His craftsmanship was admired by many, as was his ability to find beauty in the simple things in life. An avid sports fan, Richard passionately supported the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and White Sox, as well as the Fighting Illini and The Ohio State Buckeyes football program.
Richard's love for his community was evident through his volunteer work with the Fulton Fire Department from 1975 to 1982. He held the position of Commander at the American Legion in Fulton, IL, from 1976, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, AmVets, and Eagles for over 50 years. His dedication to service and camaraderie was a beacon of inspiration to those around him.
Following his retirement, Richard spent time as a golf ranger at Upper Landsdowne in Circleville, OH, from 2001 to 2005. One of his proudest moments was achieving a hole-in-one on Hole #11 on August 11, 2003, a testament to his skill and passion for the game.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Ginny; his son, Christopher (Sherry), of Circleville, OH; his sisters Mary Lee Cecil and Brenda (late Charles) Hesser, both of Fulton, IL, Candi (Charles) Bubert of St. Augustine, FL, and Debbie (John) Hauptman of Morrison, IL; his brother, Steve (Tricia) Kane, of Fulton, IL; his sister-in-law Linda Laird of Olathe, KS; his beloved grandchildren, Jessica Miller (fiancé Nick Kinsel) of Laurelville, OH, Myles Chambers of Aurora, CO, Kirsten (Brandon) Gundrum and Kiara Chambers, Circleville, OH. 8 Great grandchildren: Adrianne Danielle Rebecca Kailee Elijah Serenity Ryleigh and Harvey Cheyenne. He was a loving uncle, cousin, and friend to many, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Leland (1994)and Mary Alice (1995) Kane, and his sister, Kathe (2018) Vegter. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
Richard's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. As we remember and celebrate his life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on the world. His legacy continues to inspire us, encouraging us to live with the same kindness, strength, and compassion that he exemplified throughout his life.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor a remarkable man who touched so many lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, in Richard’s memory.
