Richard Jenkins

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Jenkins, affectionately known to many as Dicky, on March 30, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 23, 1942, in the charming town of Orangeburg, North Carolina, Richard was the cherished son of Nathaniel Jenkins and Ida Mae Baker Jenkins. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his siblings Clarence Jenkins, Don Jenkins, and Gloria Jean Greyer. Richard was preceded in death by four siblings: Lee Ernest Jenkins, Nathaniel Jenkins Jr., Sally Jenkins, and Sylvia Jenkins. He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will continue to resonate through the lives of those he touched.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne Jenkins, with whom he shared 18 joyful years of marriage. Richard was a loving father figure to Joanne’s children: Bill and Sarah Coulman, Autumn and Jason Ramsdell, Kate Coulman, and Joseph Coulman. His earlier marriage to Jacqueline Jenkins was blessed with three wonderful children: Nicole Jenkins-Byrd, John Jenkins and his wife Beverly, and Penny Hauser (Larry Hauser -Deceased). Richard’s legacy extends to his cherished nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
A graduate of Adkins High School, Richard’s early life was marked by his dedicated service to his country in the armed forces. He traveled the world, experiencing its wonders while maintaining the humble spirit and deep love for family that defined him. Upon returning home, Richard embarked on a long career with the Winston-Salem water department, where he worked diligently until his retirement.
Richard’s life was one of service, not only to his family and country but also to his community and faith. He was passionate about his role as a volunteer at East Troy Nursing Home, where he led Bible study sessions every Monday night for five years. His dedication to sharing God’s Word was a testament to his unwavering faith and deep compassion for others.
In his personal time, Richard found great joy in cooking, delighting friends and family with his famous corned beef and cabbage, a dish that became a cherished tradition at gatherings. His culinary creations, like his life, were seasoned with love and generosity.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on May 31, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Love and Fellowship Outreach Church, located at 205 NE 25th Street, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived, a life that enriched the hearts of all who knew him.
Richard Jenkins was a beacon of kindness, strength, and unwavering faith. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind. As we celebrate his life, we remember him not only for his accomplishments but for the love he sowed and the lives he touched.
