Richard J Waters
December 13, 1933 — March 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard J. Waters, who departed from this world peacefully at his home on March 22, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on December 13, 1933, in the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington, Richard led a life richly filled with love, achievement, and generosity.
Richard was the beloved son of Vivian and Bernard Waters, who predeceased him but left a lasting legacy of kindness and resilience that Richard carried forward throughout his life. He leaves behind a cherished family, including his devoted daughter, Maureen Radford, her loving husband Mark Radford, and his two adored grandchildren, Annabella and Liam Radford, who brought immense joy to his days.
Richard's journey was marked by a deep commitment to education and personal growth. After graduating from the University of Seattle, he pursued his passion for justice and earned his law degree from Georgetown Law School. His career began in the bustling world of Wall Street as a stockbroker, but in 1970, he found his true calling in Phoenix, Arizona, where he joined Del Webb, a decision that would define his professional life and where he remained an integral part of the community.
A man of faith and conviction, Richard was an active member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he found solace and strength. His dedication extended beyond his personal life to his professional endeavors, as he was a respected member of the Arizona Bar, always upholding the values of integrity and justice.
Richard's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He had a particular fondness for collecting cars, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. But perhaps his most defining characteristic was his kindness and generosity to strangers. Richard believed in the power of simple acts of kindness to transform lives, and he demonstrated this belief in every interaction.
In the 1960s, Richard married the love of his life, Carol Ditter, in Seattle. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they built a family that was the cornerstone of his happiness.
A service to celebrate Richard's remarkable life will be held on April 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at the Most Holy Trinity Church. We invite all who knew him to join us in honoring a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Richard's name, as a continued celebration of his generous spirit.
Richard J. Waters will be remembered not only for his achievements but for the warmth and compassion he shared with the world. As we say goodbye, we hold his memory close, grateful for the time we shared and the love he gave so freely.
