Richard I. Todd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at Accolade Healthcare in Pontiac, Illinois. Born on April 14, 1940, in Warrensburg, Illinois, Richard was the cherished son of Elbert and Lillie (Steenbergen) Todd. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister, and his son, Scott. Richard was a devoted husband to Marilyn (Schmidt) Todd, with whom he shared a remarkable 63 years of marriage. Their love story began at Marilyn's parents' home, where they were wed on February 24, 1963. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including their daughter, Wendy (Steve) Garrels of Pontiac, Illinois, and their son, Brian (Amber) Todd of Wisconsin. Richard's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Zach (Hannah) Garrels, Jake Garrels, Luke Garrels, and Mackenzie Todd, and his great-grandchildren, Ella, Brooks, and a baby boy expected later this year. A proud patriot, Richard served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Following his military service, he built a fulfilling 32-year career as an ironworker, dedicating his skills and work ethic to his profession. Richard was a man of many passions. He was an avid follower of late model dirt track racing, with a particular fondness for Bobby Pierce. His enthusiasm for racing extended beyond the stands, as he actively participated in go-kart and motorcycle racing. Richard also cherished the time spent engaging in sports with his sons and grandchildren. In his retirement, he found joy and purpose working in his garage, where he was known for his skillful repairs on lawn mowers. Richard's love for his family was boundless, and he enriched the lives of those around him with his warmth and unwavering support. His family will forever miss his presence and the love he so generously shared. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Accolade Pontiac for the exceptional care Richard received during his stay. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Richard's honor to the Livingston County Humane Society, reflecting his love for animals and his generous spirit. Richard I. Todd will be remembered as a loving family man, a loyal friend, and a man of integrity and passion. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of simple pleasures. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
