Richard Hans Wieker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 19, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on December 4, 1936, at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, Richard lived a life full of warmth, love, and dedicated service to his family and community. Richard was the cherished son of the late Hans Wieker and Cecelia Silver-Wieker. Growing up in a nurturing household, he developed a strong sense of family values and a love for the great outdoors. He graduated from Proviso East High School in 1954, a milestone that marked the beginning of his lifelong dedication to learning and professional excellence. Richard pursued higher education at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. In 1959, Richard joined his father at Productigear, where he embarked on a career that spanned over five decades, retiring in 2015. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were unmatched, and his contributions to the company were invaluable. On June 3, 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Sara Jane, at Devine Providence Church. Their union was a testament to enduring love, as they shared 65 beautiful years together. Richard's family was his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Jane Wieker; his sister, Carolan Weaver; his two devoted sons, David and Craig Wieker; and his loving daughter, Sara Wieker-Ricker. Richard was a proud grandfather to seven cherished grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Beyond his professional achievements and family devotion, Richard was an active and committed member of his community. He was a faithful member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, where his presence was felt in every gathering. His commitment to the youth was evident in his service on the board of the Boys and Girls Club in Chicago and his leadership role in the Indian Guides of the YMCA. Richard had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and exploring nature with his family. He delighted in traveling, often retreating to their lake house in Missouri—a place where countless memories were made. Richard's warm smile and engaging personality lit up every room he entered. He was a great conversationalist who loved meeting new people, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. A private funeral service will be held to honor Richard's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, reflecting Richard's dedication to nurturing the next generation.
