It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Skurlock on September 10, 2026, at Cone Hospital in Burlington, NC. Born on August 7, 1971, in the Bronx, New York, Richard was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend. He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him with his quick wit and larger-than-life personality. Richard was the cherished son of Maggie and the late Richard Skurlock Sr. He is survived by his devoted sons, who will carry forward his memory and legacy. He was the treasured brother of Steven Sheppard (Monica), Marcine Scurlock, Patrina Griffin (Tony), and Martrice Scurlock. Richard also leaves behind his dear aunts, Vivian Thurmond, Barbara Patterson, and Shirley Scurlock, as well as a host of beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces. Richard's life was enriched by his passions, notably his love for dancing and drawing, pursuits that allowed him to express his creativity and zest for life. He shared a profound bond with his canine companions, demonstrating his unparalleled love for dogs, who were always by his side. His family remembers him as a man who loved deeply, especially when it came to his family. Richard had a unique gift for humor, often lightening the room with a joke or two, making every gathering a little brighter. A service to honor and celebrate Richard's life will be held on September 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation, located at 306 Glenwood Ave, Burlington, NC 27215. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Richard are invited to join in remembrance and to pay their respects. In a special message from the family, they express their heartfelt gratitude: "The Family wants to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers during our time of bereavement! May God continue to Bless you all!" In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made in Richard's memory to a charity of your choice. Richard's legacy of love, laughter, and light will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
