It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Guy Smith, Jr., a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world after a brief illness on June 28, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on July 16, 1959, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Richard was the beloved son of Marilyn Henzie and the late Richard G. Smith, Sr. Richard shared a close bond with his mother Marilyn, who survives him, along with his devoted sisters, Monica Devane and niece Haley. The family unit was always a source of love and support for Richard. A graduate of Upper Merion High School, Richard's was a life long learner. He carried that same passion for knowledge and discovery throughout his life, ever curious and eager to learn. Richard's life was rich with passion and interests that defined his character. He was an ardent lover of music, finding solace and joy in the melodies and rhythms that spoke to his soul. Concerts were a particular delight for him, offering a sense of community and shared joy that he treasured. His passion for music was rivaled only by his love for plants and nature. Richard had an extraordinary talent for nurturing plant life; his home was a sanctuary filled with lush greenery and beautiful examples of his horticultural expertise. Each plant was a testament to his patience, care, and the joy he found in helping things grow. Richard's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, not least his cherished niece and nephews. He was a proud and loving uncle to Haley Tribendis and her husband Andrew, as well as Samuel and Charles Tribendis. His niece, Josephine Tribendis, also held a special place in his heart. In addition to his family, Richard leaves behind a legacy of friendship and love that will be remembered by the many who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. His gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
