Richard Fredrick Slaughter

Richard Fredrick Slaughter was born on August 18, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas, becoming the second of five children born to his mother, Ruby. Richard pursued his education in the Compton Unified School District and graduated from Centennial High School in Compton, California. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Air Force, where he served for 4 years, including a tour in the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1968. Following his military service, Richard ventured into the workforce, securing employment with Xerox, a leading and pioneering company in copy machine technology, as a technician and later salesman. Excelling in sales, he transitioned to various sales positions and eventually retired as an office furniture salesman. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, older brother Jose, younger sister Eleanor, sister-in-law Monica, and nephew Joshua. He is survived by his step-daughter, Julia Cox, goddaughter Tawnee Robinson; brothers Keith Copeland and Kevin Copeland; nephews Willie Joseph, Mark and Mathew(mother Lori Reeves), Alex, Kameron, Nick, Jeremiah, and niece Naomi(mother Monica Copeland), Justin and Jeffrey(mother Cheryl Copeland), very helpful friend James Morin, and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and extended family members, all of whom will forever cherish his memory. In Richard's life and legacy, may his service to his country, dedication to his work, and love for his family be remembered and honored. May he rest in peace.
