Richard Earl Holt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Earl Holt, who left this world while surrounded by the love and care of his family and the compassionate team at Thema Hospice of Arizona, on August 14, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on September 27, 1934, to Olaf and Blanche Stewart Holt, Richard spent his formative years in Belview, Minnesota. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1952, continuing his education at Mankato State before attending the Northwestern University Traffic Institute for a year. His early years were marked by a spirit of service, which led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country from 1952 to 1956. In 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Phyllis Baune, on a crisp autumn day, November 16. Together, they built a life defined by love, respect, and unwavering support, sharing 68 wonderful years of marriage. Their union was blessed with five children: Pamela (Paul) Erickson, Randy (Laurie) Holt,Nancee (Ron) VanDerveer,Todd (Lori) Holt and Jonathan (Linnea) Holt. Richard was also a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life, and his little friend Charlie. Richard's professional journey was marked by dedication and integrity. In 1961, he found his calling with the Minnesota State Patrol,spending his years in Annandale working out of St. Cloud station. where he served with distinction. His commitment to public service was a testament to his character and a reflection of the values instilled in him by his beloved parents, Olaf and Blanche.Richard retired from the state patrol in 1989 after 28 years. Richard and Phyllis hit the road and Rv’d for 20 plus years making many new and lasting friends until 2011 found a home in Florence,Az Though predeceased by his parents, his brothers Stewart and Howard Holt, and his sisters Shirley and young Margaret, Richard's legacy lives on through his devoted wife Phyllis, his sister Mary E. Carter, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren Richard's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Thema Hospice of Arizona for their compassionate care and support during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations in Richard's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dear to his heart. Richard donated his body to Research for Life of Az. As we remember Richard, we honor a life well-lived, filled with service, love, and family. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness will remain in our hearts forever. A family celebration of Life will be held at a later date
