February 16, 1955 — April 18, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Richard "Dick" Dale Hazen, who left us on April 18, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 16, 1955, in Oakley, Kansas, Dick's journey was one marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit. Dick was the beloved son of the late William O. and Irene (Roths) Hazen. He was predeceased by his cherished brother Robert (Bob) and brother-in-law Brett Boys, whose memories he carried fondly throughout his life. Surrounded by the love of his family, Dick took his final breath at home, with his devoted wife of 25 years, Dee, by his side. Their marriage, which began on July 13, 2000, in Hays, Kansas, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Though he had no children of his own, Dick's heart was full with the presence of his step-daughter, Jamie Disney, her husband, Miles, and his adored grandson, Gabriel, all from Salina. His sisters, Ginger Seibel of Salina, Marie Schmidt (Virgil) of Golden, CO and Karen Boys of Concordia, alongside his brothers, Jim Hazen of Grinnell, Kansas, and Ronnie Hazen of Cheyenne, WY, survive him, and many nieces and nephews carrying forward the cherished family bond. Dick's academic journey saw him graduate from high school in Grinnell, KS, in 1973, before attending Colby Community College and later Kansas State University, where he pursued a major in radio broadcasting. His path, however, led him to the construction industry—a field where he excelled alongside his brother Bob. This expertise paved the way for a fulfilling career with the State of Kansas, where he diligently served for 29 years. Among his proudest achievements was overseeing the new construction on state grounds, particularly his involvement in the building of the new west side of the Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Dick's passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a dedicated fan of the KC Royals, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Kansas State Wildcats—often spending Saturdays in Manhattan cheering "Go Cats - EMAW!" His love for sports was matched only by his love for family gatherings, where he was known for his warm presence, a cold beer in hand, and a readiness to help anyone in need. Those who knew Dick will always remember his gentle, calm voice and the kindness he bestowed upon everyone he met. His willingness to lend a hand and his ability to bring people together were hallmarks of his character. In this time of sorrow, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Salina Regional Hospital and the compassionate team at Gentiva Hospice. Your care and tenderness during these final moments will be forever etched in our hearts. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared. Dick Hazen's legacy will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, his memory a guiding light for those he leaves behind. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
