It is with profound sadness and heartfelt tribute that we announce the passing of Richard David Paul, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend to many, who gave himself into the Lord's Hands on October 18, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 25, 1935, in Revere, Massachusetts, Richard, affectionately known as "Dad Paul," left an indelible mark on all who knew him, living a life marked by service, love, and leadership. Richard was the beloved son of Samuel and Marion Paul, and he grew up alongside his brothers Ronald, Roger, and Russel in a close-knit family. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Rocco A. and Elizabeth Irene Lanzo, his beloved wife Marilyn Lanzo Paul, his infant son David Paul, and his siblings Ronald and Roger Paul, as well as his sister-in-law Harriet Paul. Richard is survived by his brother Russel Paul and his family, as well as his daughters Beth Jane Wolpman and Brenda Lyn Asmus, their spouses, his grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His family extends across the globe, joined by many dear friends who carry forward his memory. Richard's love story with Marilyn began when they were just 15 years old, and they married on December 2, 1956. Their life together was filled with adventure and love, taking them from Revere to nearly every continent as they built a family and shared a life rich with experiences. A dedicated scholar and leader, Richard graduated from Revere High School in 1953, Boston University in 1957, and Air Force Officer Training in 1958. His educational journey included the prestigious Harvard Leadership School, where he further honed his leadership skills. His Air Force career spanned 25 years, where he served with distinction, reaching the rank of Colonel. From flying Typhoon Chasers to serving as Executive Officer at the Pentagon and volunteering for service in Vietnam, Richard's military career was marked by bravery and dedication. His innovations, such as the "2 glasses of water" rule at Basic Military Training School, demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of his fellow service members. After retiring from the Air Force, Richard transitioned to civilian life, serving as Vice President of Deutsch Components and later as a pioneering professor of leadership training at Glendale Community College. His legacy in these roles was one of mentorship and empowerment, helping countless individuals reach their potential. Richard's passion for service extended to his community work with Hope Hospice in New Braunfels, Texas. He found great personal fulfillment in supporting this organization, contributing to its growth and impact as a member of the Board of Directors. In his personal life, Richard was an avid reader, a lover of history, a picnic enthusiast, and a devoted family man. Known for his dad jokes and charismatic personality, he brought joy and laughter to those around him. His curiosity and love for learning were infectious, and he was a guiding light to many. A service to honor Richard's life will be held on October 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Lux Funeral Home and Crematory.
