It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Richard D. Hinman, who left us peacefully at home on July 25, 2026. Born on September 22, 1933, in Salamanca, New York, Richard's journey through life was a rich tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication to family and community. Richard was the cherished son of Donald and Lola Hinman, who instilled in him values of integrity and compassion. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, his brother Robert, and sister Dorthy Niver, who poignantly departed on the same day as Richard, as well as his first wife, Deanna Bridenbaker, and third wife, Hellen Woods. His enduring legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Rose Hinman, who was by his side throughout their marriage. Richard's life was a testament to the power of family. He leaves behind his children, each of whom inherited his warmth and humor: Randy Hinman (Julie), Christine Terhune (Eugene), Richard A. Hinman (Roxanne), Richard T. Hinman, Lynette Cardinals (Sal), Michael Hinman (Ray), and Renee Jovenitti (Ben). The joy of his life was multiplied by his 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, 1 Great Great grandson with whom he loved to share stories, play silly games, and paint the world with laughter and love. A proud alumnus of Salamanca High School, Richard answered the call to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. His career spanned 25 years as a dedicated welder on the railroad, where he was respected for his skill and commitment. Richard's heart was woven into the fabric of his community. A long-standing member of the Baptist Church, he was also a dedicated volunteer with the Salamanca Fire Department and served as a Boy Scout leader, imparting wisdom and encouragement to young minds. An artist at heart, Richard found joy in painting and drawing, and he was an avid collector of Norman Rockwell pieces. His love for the outdoors was evident in the cherished times he spent camping with his family, where stories were shared under starry skies and laughter echoed through the trees. Richard will be remembered for his great sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye, and his unconditional love for those around him. His legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and an enduring spirit that will continue to inspire those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Richard's spirit of generosity and compassion. As we bid farewell to Richard, we hold the memories of his life close to our hearts, knowing that his spirit lives on in the laughter of his grandchildren and the love that binds his family together.
