It is with heavy hearts yet fond memories that we announce the passing of Richard Burton, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Lancaster Health & Rehabilitation, surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born on April 5, 1951, in Munich, Germany, to the late Richard Burton and Veronica Nusbaum.
Richard was a man of intellect and compassion, who dedicated much of his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the enrichment of others. He graduated with a degree in English from Santa Barbara College, where he not only excelled academically but also left an enduring legacy as a beloved tutor. His passion for literature and the English language inspired many, and his kindness and patience were evident in the lives of the students he touched.
Though Richard never married, he was a cornerstone in the lives of his family. He is survived by his devoted sister, Doris Schuler; his brother, Peter Burton, and sister-in-law, Mary Beth Burton. His sister, Doris Schuler, held a special place in his heart, and together they shared countless treasured memories. Richard was a cherished uncle to his nieces, Amelia Dhokai, Anil Dhokai, Danielle Dhokai, and Lindsey Burton, and his nephews, Nick Faith and David Simpson, who all looked up to him with admiration and love.
Richard's father, Richard Burton, predeceased him, but he carried his father’s values of integrity and kindness throughout his life. Richard's legacy is one of unwavering love for his family and a profound dedication to the education and betterment of others.
A service to honor Richard's life will be held on July 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Union ARP Church, located at 3594 Lancaster Highway, Richburg, SC 29729. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend and celebrate a life that was lived with grace and purpose.
