With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Bernard Darrenkamp Jr., affectionately known to many as "Slim," on March 9, 2026. Born on September 28, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rick was surrounded by his beloved family and close friends as he departed this world. He was 77 years old. The son of the late Richard B. Darrenkamp Sr. and Elizabeth "Bette" Darrenkamp (Landis), Rick was a true son of Pennsylvania. Raised in a loving family, Rick carried with him the teachings and values imparted by his parents throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents and a precious granddaughter, Sofia, whose memory he cherished deeply. Rick's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971, where he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His commitment to his nation was an integral part of who he was, and he carried that pride with him throughout his life. A graduate of Hempfield High School, Rick was a man of many talents and interests. He retired at the young age of 48 as an administrator for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Outside of his professional life, Rick was a man of action and heart. He was a founding member of the Sons of Hiram and served as Worshipful Master of the Masons, Lodge No. 602 in Galeton, PA. His camaraderie with fellow veterans was evident through his membership in the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association. Rick was a man of the outdoors, with a passion for hunting, fishing, and riding four-wheelers. The call of the beach and the open road on his motorcycle brought him immense joy. He was a jack-of-all-trades, always building or fixing something, and was known for his resourcefulness and ingenuity. Those who knew Rick will forever remember his candid nature and his great sense of humor. He was never one to shy away from speaking his mind, and his laughter was infectious. His presence brought warmth and light to those around him. Rick's legacy lives on through the love of his life, Stacey Judge, who stood by him through thick and thin. He is survived by his beloved sons, Kurt Darrenkamp, Scott (Michelle Place) Darrenkamp and his daughter, Lori (Eric) Allman. His grandchildren, Rylan, Ethan, Coy, Alexandria and Beaux, were the light of his life, and he leaves behind treasured memories for them to cherish. Rick is also survived by his sister, Judy (Roger) Kirchner; his brother, Timothy Darrenkamp; Michelle's children, Matthew and Madilyn; Stacey's daughter, Caitlin and his two faithful dogs, Waldo and Luna, who were constant companions. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kindred Care and Hospice for their kindness and love during Rick's final days. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold dear the memories of a life well-lived, full of laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. Rick has left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all. May he rest in peace, forever riding the winds of adventure he so dearly loved.
